In Real Life: Week 3

Happy Sunday! Shall we take a look at this week?

No school on MLK Day meant some good extra mama & Jack time.

It was a gorgeous day, so we spent a good chunk of it outside.

Sometimes it hits me that he is definitely not a baby anymore… he is all little boy.

I took an afternoon nap with the window open and it felt so good.

Bedtime altar vibes.

Four going on forty…

Inauguration day was such a relief.

And what a momentous occasion… our first Latina Supreme Court Justice swearing in our first female (and first person of color and of South Asian heritage) Vice President.

I didn’t expect to get emotional, but I basically bawled through the entire inauguration. I don’t think I appreciated how much of a balm this day would feel like after the chaos of the last four years.

Feeling flirty.

Cozy kitty.

A fraction of my indoor jungle.

I realized the other day that I hadn’t worn jeans basically at all since quarantine began. No regrets… dresses for life.

Watch out for Joe Cool over here…

B and I had the brilliant idea to make Bahn Mi from scratch at home. The results were epic.

We also ate the pork over this Asian salad with rice noodles… /drool.

This is what happens when you pass out for the night at 5:30pm, then wake up super early… I took this photo at around noon, and after I moved him to bed he slept til almost 3. Talk about hung over!

And that’s all, folks! Have a great week 4!

In Real Life: Week 2

Hi friends! Let’s take a look at week 2 of 2021…

Oliver has been very in everyone’s business lately.

Laundry baskets are really just boxes with holes. And they’re even more fun when mischievous little boys like to push you around in them.

Even a shelf makes a nice cubbie.

We’ve had some gorgeous weather this week! Made me wonder if it was really January at times…

Cafeteria killing it again with this chicken curry-inspired salad.

I was so excited to get my order from Shutterbean! And most of this is free goodies… I only ordered two things! Thanks for hooking a girl up, Tracy!

Pro-tip: don’t eat like 4 of these back-to-back. You will end up with a stomach ache.

Me, to random girl also looking at planters in Target: “Did quarantine turn you into a crazy plant lady too?”

Her: *laughs* “Yep. No regrets.”

My crazy plant lady-ness even extends to work. Yes, I have a grow light in my office.

Finally, a conversation heart that gets me.

This provided a much-needed giggle.

Trying a new nightstand setup.

It’s rather luxurious to be able to take a bath in the morning before work.

A welcoming altar.

Flowers for no reason really are the best.

These KN95 masks always make me feel like I have a beak.

Saying goodbye to my office for the next 3 weeks.

I had surgery on Friday. Nothing major, a quick in and out.

Oliver knew something was up, though, and insisted on giving me extra snuggles.

I can’t explain how much I love having live music in my house.

And today was my birthday!

I love that my mama still wraps my gifts before she sends them.

One of those wrapped gifts was the little lady on the left. Lady on the right is one Mom gave me a few years ago… they look like they’re going to be best buds.

Felt good enough for a walk today.

Handy references to estimate 6 feet of distance…

Does this look like your childhood?

Where I root.

An epic birthday dinner. SO GOOD.

See you soon!

Week 2: 2017

Week 2: 2018

In Real Life: Week 1

Hello again, friends! It’s been a while. Two years and several months, actually. And so, so much has changed since then. I hope you’ll forgive me if I don’t rehash it.

But through all of the change, I have never stopped missing my weekly photo blog. I’ve missed the way it made me look for beautiful ordinary things to photograph every day. I’ve missed the regular reflection it required of me, and the positive spin I forced myself to put on what I’d been through each week. The practice of blogging this way was therapeutic for me, I think.

Which is why I’m back today to start again. I now have the time and the bandwidth to return to it and it’s calling me, so… here we are. Let’s dive in. 🙂

2020 was a shit year for pretty much everyone. I couldn’t think of a better way to kiss it goodbye than by getting the first shot in my Covid-19 vaccination series.

I spent most of the rest of New Years Eve just being chill.

But it was cold that day, and after spending too much time on the porch I ended up in the bath to warm up. (I can’t tell you how much I love my big soaker tub.)

New Years Day was spent in Santa Cruz while Robbie moved his things.

It was a gorgeous day, and Jack enjoyed the adventure.

Just look at that unbridled joy!

I love the cliffs of the central coast.

Big changes. Small progress.

A hard goodbye.

Three words: fat and happy.

I feel a need to document the strangeness of everyday pandemic life. Like seeing “mask required” signs everywhere.

I’ve been enjoying smoothies for breakfast off and on for a while now. My current favorite trick is to pack the blender the night before so all I have to do is plug and play in the morning.

I’m also trying to cultivate some other healthy habits right now. I’m hoping that having this space available to me may help me stick with it.

Something to meditate on and carry through the day.

New glasses, who dis? (Don’t you love that cat eye?)

Seen at the dispensary. I lol’d.

I love a good list.

To help meet that “1 book/month” goal, I’ve started reading on my lunch breaks. Since I can’t seem to make myself do it consistently any other time of the day…

Speaking of lunch… the cafeteria killed it this day.

A room that should be full of ventilators but isn’t because #Covid19.

Watching the January 6th capitol insurrection happen live from my desk… a phrase I never imagined I’d type.

I love that Jack likes to use this little wavy safety knife to cut produce with me. Sometimes I let him batch chop things, and then I smile later when I see the little ridges and remember that he chopped that for me.

Felt cute, might delete later.

That’s a wrap for this week! I’m hoping to remember to take more pictures in the coming week… I’m out of practice!
